Charity of the Month
Who decides?
The Charity of the Month for the Parish of Hornchurch is decided by the “Micah Group”, who obtain their name from Micah 6:8:
“He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
It is from these words that the Micah Group tries to follow the idea of encouraging people to look beyond themselves and think of others in need.
Why do we decide to support certain Charities?
The charities that we promote annually are:
- CMS, in March
- Christian Aid, in May
- The Children’s Society, in December
The remaining charities for this year are:
- September - Daybreak
- October - Murole High School Uganda
- November - St. Francis' Hospice
- December - The Children's Society
We also activitely support the work of Opewration Christmas Child (Samaritans Purse) with the Shoebox Appeal. Leaflets are currently available in our Churches.
How can I get more involved?
If you would like to get more involved in the work of the Micah Group or if you would like to make a suggestion for a charity you would like us to support in 2009 then please contact the Parish Office. In the meantime if you would like to contribute to any of the charities in the coming year please place your donation in the ‘hole in the wall’ to the left of the reception window in the assembly area at St Andrew’s.
